We are offering our 38-foot Hughes 38, a proven bluewater cruising sailboat designed for serious offshore sailing and built by Sparkman & Stephens. The hull was designed by Howard Hughes, and the Hughes 38 has a strong reputation as a capable, seaworthy ocean-going boat.
This is a strong, lightweight and highly capable bluewater boat, designed to take you offshore and potentially around the world. She is also equipped with a 100% electric propulsion system, powered by solar energy.
We have made the difficult decision to sell because our family circumstances are changing and we are no longer able to continue our life at sea as planned.

🔧 Work to Consider
The boat is ready for continued preparation and cruising, but there are a couple of items we would recommend addressing before an ocean crossing:
• Genoa: the sail should be repaired and reinforced if you plan to undertake an ocean crossing.
• Anchor chain: some sections show rust. For maximum safety offshore, we recommend replacing it or having it professionally re-galvanized.
• If you don't like electric propulsion a brand new shaft and foldable propeller are in place ready to welcome your desired motor.
We prefer to be completely transparent about these items so the next owner knows exactly what they are getting.
